Zoey – Our First Alaskan Malamute
Since Meital was young she was dreaming about having a dog in our family and our mom was afraid of dogs and didn’t allow her to get one. It started while she was in kindergarten. The neighbor had an Alaskan Malamute and Meital loved him. She used to play with him in every opportunity she had.
It took more than 15 years until she actually got one. Our mom always told her that it was either her or a dog, so, as a joke of course, Meital told to start packing because she’s getting one and there’s nothing she can do about it.
A few months later, after looking on the internet for a breeder and finding Ayelet Shushan’s Ayla Alaskan Beauty kennel, we learned there was a very soon to be litter that still had puppies that weren’t reserved. After talking with Ayelet, we decided to get a female, as they are considered calmer (turned out she wasn’t that calm :-D) and waited until she was old enough to take her home.
Zoey, or in her full name, Zoey of Ayla Alaskan Beauty, was born on the 14th of November 2010. It was only 4 weeks later that Meital actually picked her out from the 3 females in that litter (one was actually already reserved) and 2 weeks after that, on the 31st of December 2010, we took her to her new home.
When we got home, We couldn’t leave her for a second. She was so cute, like a little teddy bear that barks. She adjusted to her new home rather quickly, learned where was her “spot”, got her confidence walking around the house and starting to show us her “calm” character.
Zoey is a stubborn, very vocal Alaskan Malamute female with a tendency to play rough but also very protective with a unique capacity to understand the emotional state of the people who surround her. Another “special” thing about her, is that it seems she has an ability to sense that something out of the ordinary is happening to a person, but we’ll tell you about it on a later post.
